REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology is a simple but effective treatment involving gentle pressure techniques on the feet and occasionally on the hands.
It is a holistic therapy based on the theory that every organ, gland and structure in the body has a reflex point on the feet and hands. By stimulating these reflex points using pressure techniques the whole body can be treated.
Reflexology helps connect and restore the balance between our mind, body and spirit by enhancing the flow of energy within the body. It induces a state of relaxation allowing the bodies own natural healing ability to function.
Many ailments are a result of modern day life and reflexology treatments can help ease stress and many of the associated symptoms.
Treatments can benefit a huge range of conditions including:
- Joint problems
- Digestion
- Insomnia
- Stress
- Skin conditions
What do treatments involve?
Treatments last about 45 minutes. The initial treatment usually lasts slightly longer as a brief confidential consultation is carried out, this includes some questions about medical history and lifestyle. The whole treatment is carried out on the feet although in some cases points on the back of the leg up to the knee will be used. Occasionally if a part of the foot has an injury, the relevant point on the hand will be used instead.
Treatments are done in a sitting position, only shoes, socks and tights will need to be removed, and your reflexology treatment will start with a few minutes of general massage to the feet to relax them before the treatment begins. No lotions or oils are used during the treatment although a moisturising lotion can be applied to the feet at the end of the treatment if you wish.
Best results and benefits are obtained from a course of treatments rather than a single treatment. Chronic, long term conditions will usually require a longer course of treatments although this varies greatly and often improvements are felt immediately.
